L'Escapade Island Resort Noumea - a 4 star New Caledonia Resort

L'Escapade Island Resort Noumea - previously known as the Coral Palms Island Resort - is a 4 star New Caledonia Resort on Ilot Maitre, a marine reserve in the world's largest coral reef lagoon.
The resort has an air conditioned 58 passenger navette, the "Coral Palms", that makes up to 7 round trips a day from downtown Noumea to Ilot Maitre. The 25 minute boat trip is in the calm, protected waters of the New Caledonia Lagoon (In the picture below you can see Noumea in the background, behind the Coral Palms, as it approaches the resort).

As you arrive at l'Escapade Island Resort aboard the Coral Palms, you will see the unique overwater bungalows. Built on pilings over the lagoon, they are both attractive and environmentally friendly, built to minimise the ecological impact of the resort on the island itself.

After the Navette ties up to the pier, an electric cart arrives to carry your luggage to your bungalow. The Reception is right at the end of the long pier. You will be served a welcome drink, register and then shown to your bungalow.

The overwater bungalows are accessed by an overwater boardwalk.

Each overwater bungalow stands on it's own and has a lounge, bedroom, ensuite and a balcony with direct access to the lagoon. In the photo below you'll see a young lady sitting on the stairs to the lagoon, watching the tropical fish in the crystal clear water.

The entrance to the bungalow opens directly into the lounge.

The bedroom looks out over the fabulous lagoon - a truly spectacular view at sunset. The bungalow is air conditioned and has a direct dial phone, DVD and Satellite TV, Internet connection, iron, ironing board, room service, hair dryer, bathrobes, slippers, mini-bar and in-room safe.

The luxurious ensuite bathroom is just off the bedroom.

The balcony is perfect for sunbathing, reading, and sunset drinks before dinner. Stairs lead from the terrace into the lagoon so you can go for a swim or a snorkel right from your bungalow.

If you DID go for a snorkel and looked back at your bungalow, this is what you'd see.

l'Escapade Island Resort Island Bungalows
The island bungalows are hidden in the tropical gardens of Ilot Maitre. The Island Bungalows are set up for couples or families (children are not allowed to stay in the overwater bungalows). Some of the island bungalows overlook the lagoon but most of them look out onto the gardens.

The door opens into the bedroom/lounge area and the bungalows have three to 4 beds, Satellite TV, coffee tea making facilities, mini-fridge, ensuite with a separate toilet, direct dial phone, hair dryer, air conditioning plus an overhead fan.

Weddings at l'Escapade Island Resort
The resort has a wedding chapel. New Caledonia wedding ceremonies are only legal civil affairs for people who are residents of New Caledonia. However, many people who are not residents arrange ceremonies in New Caledonia to reaffirm their wedding vows or to celebrate their wedding after having a quiet civil wedding back home. One advantage is that the ceremony does not require any waiting period for visitors - although is good to plan ahead to get things properly organized. Our staff can assist you with additional information about weddings.

l'Escapade Island Resort Activities
There are plenty of things to do on this lovely little tropical island.
You can walk all the way around the island on the white sand beach or find a secluded little part of the beach and stretch out for some happy sunning.

Have a drink at the swim up bar at the swimming pool.

For more action-oriented water sports, you'll visit the resort's Nautical Center where you can sign out snorkelling gear and enjoy the beautiful coral reefs of the Ilot Maitre marine reserve.

Try a fun ride all around the island on the "banana boat" pulled by a jet ski.

If you really want some speed, try a jet ski yourself - instruction is available (it doesn't take much instruction).

If you want a little more exercise, try a kayak for two.

There is also a Kite Surf school that comes to Ilot Maitre (where there is wind). Kite surfing has to be the most thrilling new water sport and the Kite Surf school instructors are world champions.
